Salento Acquari-Mediterranea Discus 2007

Hi all, Greek Aquarium friends
It is a great pleasure for me to write in your forum. I am sorry, but I do not speak your language.
Few days ago, I recieved a kind email by Nikolas who informed me about your Club. He wrote me about the opportunitiy to meet all together in Lecce, during our Salento Acquari-Mediterranea Discus Event. Below some information about our Events:

Mediterranea Discus 2007 4th Edition will be held in Lecce (at the beautiful ex-Convento dei Teatini, placed in the town centre), from September, 27th to the 30th 2007. Lecce is a lovely town 100,000 inhabitants located in Puglia Region (South-East of Italy), chosen to host the unique International Discus Contest organized in Italy. The Discus Contest will take place together the 7th National Aquarium Exhibition called “Salento Acquari”. The Exhibition and the Discus Contest are organised by the “Gruppo Acquariofilo Salentino” (www.gas-online.org) one of the most active and dynamic Italian Aquarium Clubs.


It will be a great pleasure for us to meet you in Lecce. Maybe that this first "Mediterranean Aquarium Meeting" will become an annual appointment for all the aquarium lovers of the Mediterranean basin.

Finally, I would like to inform you that you can easily reach us via Ferry Boats which connect Corfù and Igoumenitsa to Brindisi (far from Lecce only 40 Km) and where there is also an Airport.

Looking forward to hearing from you and hoping to meet you in Italy.

ειναι μεγαλη μου χαρα να συμμετεχω σε αυτο το φορουμ, δυστυχως δεν μιλω τη γλωσσα σας.
Πριν απο λιγες μερες ελαβα ενα μειλ απο τον Νικολα που με ενημερωνε για το δικος σας συλλογο και μου εγραφε για την ευκαιρια να συναντηθουμε ολοι μαζι στο Λετσε κατα τη διαρκεια του Salento Acquari-Mediterranea Discus Event. Παρακατω θα βρειτε πληροφοριες για το γεγονος.....

Το Mediterranea Discus 2007 4th Edition θα γινει στο Λετσε (στο ομορφο εκθεσιακο κεντρο dei Teatini, στο κεντρο της πολης) απο 27 Σεπτεμβριο μεχρι 30 Σεπτεμβριου 2007. Το Λετσε ειναι μια ομορφη πολη των 100,000 στην Πουλια (νοτια ανατολικη Ιταλια) που επιλεχθηκε να φιλοξενει το μονοδικο Διεθνη Διαγωνισμο Δισκων στην Ιταλια.Ο διαγωνισμος Δισκων θα λαβει χωρα μαζι με την 7η Εθνικη Ενυδρειακη -εκθεση με το ονομα “Salento Acquari”.Η εκθεση και ο διαγωνισμος οργανωνονται απο τον συλλογο “Gruppo Acquariofilo Salentino” (www.gas-online.org) εναν απο τους πιο δυναμικους Ιταλικους ενυδρειακους συλλογους.

Θα χαρουμε πολυ να σας συναντησουμε στο Λετσε. Ισως αυτη η πρωτη ΜΕσογειακη Ενυδρειακη Συναντηση να εξελιχθει σε ενα ετησιο ραντεβου για ολους τους ενυδρειοφιλους της Μεσογειου.

Κλεινοντας, θα ηθελα να σας ενημερωσω οτι μπορειτε ευκολα να ερθετε με φερυ μποτ απο Ηγουμενιτσα - Κερκυρα - Μπριντεζι (το οποιο απεχει 40 χλμ απο το Λετσε) και εχει αεροδρομιο.

Francesco please tell us some more about your aquarist club..... Are there many Italian aquarist's clubs?

Hi Nikolas,

here in italy there are many Aquarium Associations. Italy is composed by 20 Regions. Each region has one or more Associations. Also other Clubs periodically organize events, shows and conferences about aquarium topic.

The "Gruppo Acquariofilo Salentino" (my Association.. I was one of the founders...) "was born" in 2000 and today it is a very active aquarium club, one of the most famous in Italy. It is because we launched our annual event "Salento Acquari" which, year after year became the Greatest Aquarium Event of Italy (30.000 visitors in each of the two last editions). Furthermore, in 2003 we launched "Mediterranea Discus" Contest. At the first Edition, 30 Discus competed in our Contest. This year 101 fishes will participate to our International Championship and many o them will come from other countries. An International jury will judge them and many "names" of the Discus world will be in Lecce during our Show: just to mention some of them there will be Manfred Gobel (Germany), one of the "fathers" of the Discus, Dr. Sun See Seng (President of Discus Club Singapore), Jeffrey Tan (Ex- President of the Discus Society of Malaysia), Heiko Bleher (explorer and expert in wild Discus), Sergey and Alexander Goriushkin, breeders from Russia, Sebastiano Solano (Italy, expert in Discus and international judge) etc.
Many firms will sponsorise the Event. There will be the booths of SERA, TETRA, PRODAC, ACQUARIO DI BOLOGNA, HYDOR, NEOGEA, GS TROPICALFISH, HOBBY FAUNA IMPORT EXPORT, AQUARIUMZOO, AQUAPRESS and others.

In the past we organized also the first Italian Betta Competition and the first Italian Guppy contest. We are interested in all the "Aquarium World" and among our members there are discuslovers, bettalovers, african cichlid experts, reef keepers, mediterranean fans, etc.

Finally, for the Discus enthusiasts, I would like to inform also that, by few time, it was published my new discus book "Trophy Discus" (only in English version) written in collaboration with two other authors, Dr. Sun See Seng (Singapore) and Dick Au (USA). I am proud of it because it is also the result of many year spent by me to breed and study the Discusfish.
